My Garden

This year will be the first year that I feel like the house is mine. What does that mean now? I’m ripping out plants I don’t want. I’m planting the most ambitious garden ever – and I’m continuing to learn about our property. Ultimately, I’m forming my garden.

Donna continues to say hello even after her death. Last year it was carrots. This year I’ve found that she has heirloom grapevines ALL OVER the place. Much of my time after work has been spent watering, weed pulling, planting – and well – removing. To ensure my pups don’t trash the grapes, I’m having to go outside every day because they quite literally pop up over night – and with hearty roots as well!

So our property came with:

  • 2 Pecan trees
  • 4 Oaks
  • 1 Loquat tree
  • 1 Tomato plant (dead)
  • 1 Jalapeño plant (dead)
  • Carrots (bolted and seeds saved)
  • Hedge bushes
  • 1 yuca
  • Purple clover
  • Daisies
  • Wild onions/garlic/chives
  • Ferns
  • Laurels

I’ve since took out some laurels to make space for my garden and have uprooted the daisies and purple clover. This year we’re adding:

  • 1 Peach tree
  • 1 Blackberry bush
  • 1 Rosemary bush
  • More carrots
  • Cilantro
  • Mint
  • Basil
  • Thyme
  • Dill
  • 3 Tomato plants
  • 1 Jalapeño plant
  • Cucumbers
  • 2 Strawberry plants
  • Watermelon

This year I will be happy if anything survives as this is an experiment period of what will even grow.

Every morning I’m overjoyed at the growth that occurred the day prior and I look forward to being outside and in the dirt with my plants.

Who am I? Who is this person!?
